Eric Mack
Blue Highway Productions

Vadito , New Mexico,  875279

ericcmack@yahoo.com
http://www.ericmack.org

Bio : I suppose it all started somewhere at a journalism school deep in the Midwest (with an ill-conceived tenure in silicon valley somewhere along the way). From there it was on to Alaska and years of trying to keep recording equipment from freezing. When that became altogether too silly, it was on to Asia to thaw out for a while before landing back in Northern New Mexico and a precarious career as an independent producer.

Notes : Eric Mack has worked as a program director, operations and news director for a handful of public radio stations in Alaska. He has also written a number of grants and overseen special recording projects, including native language and cultural preservation efforts.

As a print reporter, his work has appeared in the National Catholic Reporter, Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Albuquerque Journal, Business 2.0, Sangre de Cristo Chronicle, Sierra, Alternet and other publications.

His broadcast work has appeared on programs including All Things Considered, Day to Day, Weekend America, Justice Talking, National Native News, Independent Native News, Good Dirt Radio and on networks including APRN, NPR and the BBC.

Bio : My name is Timothy A. Mahr

After making artful or abstract films for a sort of hobby, and going to school for Sociology, I decided to research how to incorporate the two fields. I stumbled across the documentary genre section in a video rental store, and could not get enough. There was an entire world within this genre, and it seemed to me that whatever the interest of the film’s creator(s) happened to be, there are an infinite number of ways to bring even the most obscure of topics to life (and in a coherent and concise manner).

The more I researched, the more I learned, the more I realized that eventually I would have to get formally educated in the craft so that I could eventually find my “voice” in order to more effectively bring my vision and cinematic queries to life.

Eventually, I found solace in audio. I learned that after WWII, the advent of consumer accessible audio equipment enabled the world to make a radical shift in how we all listen to music. This is where I got hooked to non-fiction media. I started making field recordings in the late 90’s. Since then, my understanding of the tools of the trade has grown in leaps and bounds.

I transferred to UAlbany as a Junior in the fall if 2007 and soon found that the interdisciplinary department of Documentary Studies, is designed to educate students and give them the tools and the skills needed to enter the ever changing/growing field of Documentary arts.

After working under the guidance of the Documentary Studies Faculty, I have started to gain confidence in my “voice” as a filmmaker and engineer.

Bio : Radio is my second career. Architecture was my first. The best part of that job was interviewing the clients, before starting design. Often, I found myself counseling couples as they articulated their fears and dreams, sometimes for the first time. They would say \\\\\\\"I never realized family mealtimes were so important to you\\\\\\\" or \\\\\\\"what do you mean you need some personal space?\\\\\\\" I loved finding order, symbolism and trajectory in their lives. This love has brought me to public radio.

I was an unpaid intern at KUOW in Seattle. Now I freelance for them about once a week. I have been doing radio since March 2007. In that time, I have produced well over a hundred pieces. I also produce a podcast, featuring the day jobs held by Seattle musicians, for the online edition of a weekly newspaper.
