Bio : I\'ve been volunteering at community radio stations since I ran away from home at 17, starting with KPFK (what a place to start!). Stations include: KCRW, KAZU, KUSP, KUNM. Worked the News Dept. and produced documentaries for KUNM for the past, 4 years.
Notes : Favorite Shows: My favorite shows are the ones where I can TASTE the producers\' hard work, commitment and investment in community buildiing. If I didn\'t learn something, if I wasn\'t challenged or moved, it wasn\'t my favorite.

Benjamin K. Roe is General Manager of WDAV 89.9 Classical Public Radio, the listener-supported public radio service of Davidson College. Roe has more than 25 years of leadership in radio and public media. He is a 20-year veteran of National Public Radio, serving most recently as its Director of Music and Music Initiatives. In that job he developed the blueprint for NPRMusic.org, an online music portal for NPR and member public radio stations across the United States.
Prior to that, he served as NPR’s Senior Producer for Music and Special Projects, as a producer for NPR’s Performance Today, and as a reporter for NPR News in Moscow. In his 20 years at NPR, he created and produced a number of live broadcasts, studio recordings, special programs, and ongoing series for the network, including Creators at Carnegie, SymphonyCast, A King Celebration and Toast of the Nation.
Roe has received numerous honors for his work, including a Chairman’s Medal for Distinguished Service from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Grammy Award for Best Choral Recording, as well as Peabody, Gabriel, and ASCAP-Deems Taylor awards for his work as the senior producer of Performance Today. In 2000, he was a key member of the NPR Cultural Programming staff that was the first broadcast organization ever to receive a National Medal of the Arts.

Bio : NAN RUBIN has been strengthening and building infrastructure for community-based media for more than thirty years. Her business COMMUNITY MEDIA SERVICES has been providing organizational assistance and support to public television and radio stations, independent producers, media service organizations, social justice groups and foundations since 1985. Her specialties include feasibility studies, policy analysis, organizational assessments, and technical and facilities planning.
She often serves as Project Director for independent productions, including “Living Voices”, a CD of profiles of American Indians, produced by the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. But to public radio listeners, Nan is best known for the highly popular radio series \"Search for the Buried Past: The Hidden Jews of New Mexico.\"
Nan built two community-based public radio stations – WAIF in Cincinnati, and KUVO in Denver – and she is a founder of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB)and served on staff in Washington DC for more than 6 years. Nan is also a founding member of AMARC (Association Mondiale des Radio Diffuseurs Communautaires/World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters) an international NGO based in Montreal, Canada with members on every continent except Antarctica.
Nan has traveled widely to public radio, television and production facilities throughout the United States and abroad, and she has worked extensively in support of minority public radio and television producers and minority arts and media projects.
She is currently Project Director of Preserving Digital Public Television, which is designing a long-term digital archive for public television being funded by the Library of Congress. She chairs the Board of the Prometheus Radio Project, and is a volunteer producer with the radio program on Jewish politics and culture \"Beyond the Pale,\" aired weekly on WBAI, the Pacifica station in New York City.

Tena’s work has been recognized with several honors, including a 2006 Open Society Institute/Soros Foundation Katrina Media Fellowship to report on post-Katrina New Orleans immigration and labor issues, two 2007 Society of Professional Journalists (NorCal Chapter) awards and a 2008 National Association of Hispanic Journalists national radio reporting award. She was also named a finalist for the 2009 DART Center Awards and 2007 Investigative Reporters and Editors award. With a background in local and national TV news and news magazine programming, Tena\'s media experience includes producer and newswriter roles at NBC, CBS and Fox affiliates, and DC-based commentary segment producing. Tena holds a B.A. degree from UC Berkeley and received her M.A. in journalism and public policy from American University in Washington, DC.

Bio : Jim Russell has been a local news director, an NPR reporter and executive producer, a war correspondent in Vietnam and Cambodia, the Manager of two public television stations, and the Manager of a Los Angeles production company. Jim has worked with all 3 public radio networks and public television, and has won every major award in broadcasting, including the duPont Columbia Award, broadcasting’s "Pulitzer", a National TV Emmy, the Peabody, Ohio State, National Headliner, and many other awards. A member of the team that created NPR's landmark All Things Considered that he executive produced, Jim also worked on the early design of Morning Edition. He conceived and guided the development of PBS's Newton's Apple science series and the APM public radio national series Marketplace and Weekend America and PRI’s The World.
