Guidelines and Instructions

  1. By far the most important thing to note about this list is that it refers ONLY to radio related AWARDS. It does not include fellowships, grants, residencies, orscholarships for further study.
  2. By its very nature, it is often hard to determine where to draw the line as to what to include in the list and what to exclude. For example, if an agency gives an annual award for increasing the visibility of ferrets as pets, is the award really a radio award or a ferret award? If the ferret group in question specifically states that they give an award either generally to 'broadcast media' or specifically to radio projects, we have included them. If the connection to radio is either tenuous, or the agency had no record ofever giving an award to a radio producer, the entry was not included in this list. Also, because the territory we cover is so vast, there are many local or regional competitions we haven't included. If you know of others, please tell us.
  3. For the most part, these are domestic U.S. awards, although we have included some key foreign awards as well.
  4. The dates for both "Deadline" and "Period of Coverage" should be used in a general sense. To confirm the official deadlines and complete rules for any of the awards listed, you MUST contact the agency itself. Because there are so many agencies with different submission and award calendars, these dates sometimes refer to the current official deadline, but they might refer to last year'sdeadline. This list should be used for general planning purposes only! OFFICIAL DATES MUST BE CONFIRMED WITH THE AGENCY ITSELF!
  5. This is a work-in-progress. We have tried to be as inclusive and accurate as possible, but with this much data, changes occur all the time. Please use our Awards Directory Update Form to send errors, corrections, omissions and suggestions. Also, the vast majority of these awards are honorable and respectable, but if any of the agencies seem to be a bit shady or disreputable, letus know your experiences with that award.
  6. If you win an award -- from this list or elsewhere -- please let us know: airspace@airmedia.org.
